Calories are a basic part of energy which can be found in almost all types of food and drinks. However, consuming high-calorie foods in excess can increase body weight, especially if not consumed in the right way. For those of you who are undergoing a diet program to lose weight, consume high-calorie foods, certainly not the right choice. But in people with low weight (underweight), eating foods with high calories can help weight gain programs. So, it is important to adjust the number of calories to the needs.

List of High-Calorie Foods

Each person needs different amounts of calories, depending on age, gender, height, and daily physical activity. However, the average calorie requirements needed by adults ranges from 2,000-3,000 calories per day. So that calorie intake is not excessive, you need to avoid and limit consumption of foods that are high in calories. The following are some foods that are known to have a high amount of calories:

1. Nuts

Nuts are a high-calorie food. Even for walnuts, the caloric amount reaches 185 calories per 25 grams. Apart from walnuts, nuts that also contain high calories are cashews, almonds, and peanuts.

2. Avocados

It is no longer a secret that avocados are one of the types of high-calorie fruit. In one medium-sized avocado weighing 200 grams, there are about 332 calories.

3. Dried fruit

Unlike fresh fruit, dried fruit has a higher calorie content. For example, 85 grams of dried raisins contains 260 calories.

4. Sweet potatoes

Foods that contain lots of calories are sweet potatoes. For one medium-sized sweet potato, there are around 180 calories.

5. White rice

White rice is also included in high-calorie foods. This mandatory food for Indonesian people contains around 240 calories per each small bowl.

Side Effects of Consuming Too Much High-Calorie Foods

High-calorie foods are good as a source of energy for the body. However, excessive consumption or processing it in an unhealthy way can cause health problems. Therefore, you are advised to count and estimate the calories you need and the calories contained in the food that you will consume. By calculating and carefully choosing foods, you can avoid a number of health problems due to excess calories, such as:

Obesity

Obesity occurs due to the number of calories that enter the body more than the calories burned. Calories that are not used will be converted by the body into fat, causing weight gain.

Heart disease

Eating too much high-calorie foods, especially those processed in the wrong way, can increase the risk of heart disease. Therefore, start paying attention to calorie intake in the food that you will consume.

Stroke

Eating high-calorie foods is also often associated with stroke. This is because high-calorie foods that are processed in an unhealthy way, such as fried foods, are usually also high in cholesterol. High cholesterol will cause plaque formation in blood vessels (atherosclerosis) which will increase the risk of stroke. Actually, you don't need to stay away from all high-calorie foods, because after all, the body needs calories to carry out its functions. However, consumption of high-calorie foods must be balanced with a healthy diet and regular exercise.
